Cross-border Buzz Continues! HONDA “NT1100” to be Launched in 2022?

Motorcycle & Industry

In recent years, as adventure motorcycles have the same luggage loading capacity as touring motorcycles, more comfortable riding experience than pure off-road motorcycles, and better off-road passability than ordinary street motorcycles, they have become more and more popular, and various brands have been launching adventure motorcycles of various distances one after another.

Recently, foreign media revealed that HONDA has applied for the name "NT1100" in Europe and passed the examination.

The more sporty and streamlined Africa Twin?

The current Africa Twin CRF1100L

According to the source, the NT1100 will be powered by the parallel twin-cylinder engine of the current model Africa Twin CRF1100L. For example, HONDA's CBR500R and CB500X, both of which are sports models, are powered by the same parallel twin-cylinder engine, while the CB650R and CBR650R are also powered by the same parallel four-cylinder engine but are developed in both sport and street models.

The most recent example is that HONDA directly took the parallel twin-cylinder engine and complete electronic control system of the Africa Twin CRF1100L and put it into the American cruiser REBEL, which has a very different style and launched the REBEL 1100.

The water-cooled four-stroke SOHC 4-valve parallel twin-cylinder engine that first appeared on the Africa Twin CRF1100L and was later extended to the REBEL 1100.

The Africa Twin CRF1100L is a 1082cc water-cooled four-stroke SOHC 4-valve parallel twin-cylinder engine with a maximum power of 102hp/7,500rpm and 104Nm/6,250rpm, which is quite sufficient for an adventure motorcycle. The twin-cylinder engine's low rpm and high torque characteristics make it easy to travel on unpaved roads such as off-road.

Since it has the same engine as the Africa Twin CRF1100L, it should also be available in both manual transmission and DCT dual clutch transmission versions.

Unfortunately, even though foreign media speculate that the NT1100 will be unveiled at the end of this year (2021) or next year (2022), there is no other information about this adventure motorcycle except for the computer CG mockups drawn by non-HONDA officials and the European application for the motorcycle's name. Is it true or is it just a rumor? Let's wait and see!
