Enjoy the 250cc Multi’s Appeal in Every Situation! YOSHIMURA “Machine Track R-11 Titanium Cyclone JMCA”

Parts & Gear

The Ninja ZX-25R has been a big hit since its announcement at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show, and competition for aftermarket parts has been fierce since its launch. In the midst of this, the long-awaited Yoshimura has released a series of exclusive parts. Let's take a look at the forefront of Yoshimura x ZX-25R.

The R-11 Titanium Cyclone, which brings out the full potential of the ECU without any modifications.

While the ZX-25R offers a sharp, exhilarating blast that is distinctly different from parallel twin-cylinder motorcycles, the engine feel is somehow less satisfying than that of 250cc multi-cylinder motorcycles born before the 1990s. The ZX-25R is a great choice for those who are looking for a new motorcycle. After doing some research on my own, I found out that the ECU was the main cause of the problem, and I thought that replacing the exhaust system would not make much of a difference in the ride quality.

However, the Yoshimura demo motorcycle equipped with the R-11 Titanium Cyclone defied all expectations. On the contrary, the company must have understood the characteristics of the stock ECU and thought that they could extract the potential from the new-age 250cc Multi without making any changes to the ECU settings.

In any case, through this test drive, I was impressed by Yoshimura's fundamental strength, and their technical ability to get the best performance out of the exhaust system even under limited conditions.

The first thing that struck me about Yoshimura's ZX-25R was the exhaust note, which was both light and massive at the same time. The stock exhaust system also has a good sound, but the Yoshimura motorcycle is two or three times better than the stock exhaust system in terms of power and excitement. Another beauty of Yoshimura's vehicle is the agile movement of the body thanks to the 4kg weight reduction.

However, what attracted me more than these was the power in the mid-range. For the ZX-25R, which has its peak power at 15,500 rpm, anything below 8,000 rpm is just a run-up, and there is no fun to be had with the stock machine.

However, Yoshimura's engine is already running at 5000 to 8000rpm. The traction is also very strong in this area. So even in situations where the engine is difficult to turn, in the city or on tight mountain passes with rough road surfaces, you can enjoy the appeal of the 250cc Multi.

The Yoshimura's mid-range power was increased and the engine kept its momentum even after 8000rpm, and it went all the way to 17000rpm where the red zone starts. The power curve shows that the maximum power output of the Yoshimura is only 1.5ps more than the stock engine. After tasting the synchronization of the rider's consciousness, the exhaust sound and the acceleration feeling, the ECU problem disappeared from my mind.

Although it is not limited to Yoshimura, recent Japanese government-certified exhaust systems are developed for street use.

However, until now, I have never thought of street and track exhaust systems in a distinct way, but now that I have experienced the R-11 Titanium Cyclone for the ZX-25R, I really feel that this is Yoshimura's idea of a street exhaust system.

The R-11 Titanium Cyclone for the ZX-25R will give you a great feeling even if you don't use it in the high rpm range.

The emphasis is on fun in the normal operating range.

Since joining the company in 2008, Mr. Okamoto has been involved in the development of a wide variety of exhaust systems. His current motorcycle is a BMW F650, but he hasn't had a chance to ride it recently because he's been very busy with test runs for exhaust system development. We developed the R-11 and R-77S cyclones for the ZX-25R almost simultaneously. I'd venture to say that the R-11 is more mid-range and the R-77S more upper end, but they both share the same enjoyable regular range - even for a 250cc, you can't always keep the revs super high.

One of the main concerns during the development process was to control the volume. If we pursued the ideal characteristics, we would have exceeded the regulatory limits, so as a sound deadening measure, knowing that it would take a lot of work, we adopted a U-shaped bypass pipe for the exhaust pipe and a sub-silencer for the R-11.

Smoothly increases rpm in normal use range

The R-11 has a much smoother power/torque curve than the stock motorcycle, which has a mid-range valley. Although there is not a huge difference in power output, the R-11 is definitely quicker and has a better acceleration feel when riding.

Titanium exhaust pipe size is φ32 / 35 / 38mm. It is a 4-2-1 type where the 1-2 and 3-4 cylinders are assembled first, and the 2-1 part is longer due to the emphasis on low to mid-range torque. The connecting tube of the exhaust pipe is a U-shape made of five pipes welded together.

Silencer cover material can be selected

The 50.8mm tailpipe and the sub-silencer are welded together in a single piece. The cover of the silencer, which sits flush with the swingarm, is available in titanium or titanium blue, as well as Metal Magic (stainless steel with a carbon pattern) as fitted to the demo motorcycle. The end diffuser pipes and brackets are made of stainless steel.

Standard and popular parts are now on sale one after another.
