[FZ 25 & FAZER 25]Details & Test Ride Review

The naked model FZ 25 and the full fairing model FAZER 25 are sold by Indian YAMAHA. Both are equipped with the next-generation high-performance small engine "BLUE CORE Engine" developed by YAMAHA.

We will compare the 2 models attractiveness and differences.

1. Naked and Full Cowl

The 2 models almost have the same size, but the FAZER 25 is around 5 kg heavier than the FZ 25 because the FAZER 25 has a full fairing. Both models have the same design except the front, but the FAZER25 has a cowl which reduces the running wind received in the body.

2. Foot Grounding

Seat height for both models are 795mm. It is not so high in the 250cc class but slightly higher than MT-25 (MT-25 is 780mm). Even 155cm tall rider with not much of a good foot grounding said, "the weight of the motorcycle is light, so we didn't have a hard time supporting the vehicle even if the foot grounding was not so good."

6. Undercarriage for Indian

Tire Size
Front: 100 / 80-17
Rear: 140 / 70-17

This 2 models have 17 inches wheel for front and rear that are the mainstream in the 250cc class. The front tire is a 100 size a little thinner, but it makes quick handling.

The brake is equipped with ABS from this model. The rear tires are fitted with a guard to ensure that the Indian national dress "Sally" does not get caught.

7. High-performance Compact Engine

・Max Output: 20.9ps / 8,000rpm
・Max Torque: 20.0N.m / 6,000rpm

These 2 models have the same engine, called "BLUE CORE," are the next generation of high-performance small engines developed by YAMAHA. The engine is designed for high fuel efficiency, high cooling performance and reduced loss.

The engine seems to be a single-cylinder air-cooled engine of SEROW series, and the oil cooler has been added for increasing the cooling performance. I tried using them mainly for commuting in the city where it makes a lot of "stop & go", and the actual fuel consumption was pretty good by 31-33km/L. By adopting injection more than anything, it demonstrates stable start-up along with the improvement of fuel economy.

8. Fuel Tank for Long Touring

The tank capacity is 14L. Even the estimated lowest actual fuel consumption of 30km per liter, the cruising range is more than 400km, so there is no problem to use them for long touring. It is good that people who use motorcycle for daily commuting do not have to refuel frequently.

9. Comfortable Seat for Single and Pillion Riding

The seat is a divided type, but the sitting area is well secured. A pillion grip is also equipped standardly, so the tandem riding seems to be comfortable.

The space under the seat is not so big, but it may be installable the ETC gadget. In-vehicle tools and the first aid kit which is familiar for Indian model was equipped in the back of the seat.

10. Selling Price Concern!?

MSRP:FZ 25: around 2,670 USDFAZER 25: around 3,010 USD

This price is surprising even though it is brand new!

If you think you can get a new motorcycle at a price close to half of the price compared to the 250cc in Japan, that's a good deal.
Custom parts for FZ 25 and FAZER 25 are not so many yet, but you can buy parts by your budget that is gotten from price gap!

11. Summary

Although it seems that there is no big difference other than the appearance between 2 models, I could know the advantages of each when I rode them to compare. The FZ 25 is lighter around the front than the FAZER 25, so the FZ 25 is more enjoyable winding loads by quick handling. On the other hand, the FAZER 25 is able to reduce fatigue by reducing the amount of running wind receive on the body by the aerodynamic characteristics of the cowl. Because the current tourer model of the 250cc class is few. We also recommend the FAZER 25 as a candidate!

If we hear that it is a parallel import Japanese motorcycle, we tend to have the image of "cheap and bad", but this 2 units have equipments and running performance that are almost same level with the Japan made models. So please try to ride them if you are interested!
