Webike Community "Let's Talk About Your bike! From the campaign, here's an enthusiastic narrative from "Katsubon", who rides a DR-Z400S!
He told us about his in-app review of the DR-Z400S including the good, the bad, and other things he knows because he's the owner.
brief self-introduction
Motorcycle history and how I usually enjoy my bike.
I usually enjoy riding my bike to work (which I also enjoy) and touring in the woods a few times a year.
Unlike when I was younger, I ride my bike less often.
How long have you been riding this bike?
I've been riding motorcycles for 43 years (since I was 16).
I've been riding motorcycles for most of my 43 years, although I've been blank for about 2 years out of 43 years.
I started out with a moped license, CB50JX, Hustler 50, RD50, and then got a mid-size limited edition and rode a CB250 T, KH250, GS400, and then KL250, XL250R, etc. when I got into off-road riding. .
At 23 years old, I de-limited my CB750FB, GSX1100S (sword) and GPZ750R (Ninja). ), and the FJ1100. I woke up to big offs, KL600R, NX650, XR650L and DR650SE.
In all, I've owned 31 bikes.
I've been riding this bike for a little over 6 years.
Purchase motive and purpose
My motivation for buying the DR650SE was to ride the DR-Z400S, which was a candidate when I bought the DR650SE. , I later bought a used one (in 2014. (They weren't selling new cars anymore).
I like that it's 25kg lighter than the DR650SE, even though it's 400cc, than the CRF250L. It's light.
Satisfactory/advantages
For the purpose
It's lighter than the DR650SE, which is by far the most "recklessly doable" thing you can do, even though it's not as leggy as the DR650SE.
For running
The water-cooled DOHC engine blows up lightly and is very comfortable to drive up to 100km/h. It might be faster than the SE. Also, it has some stickiness at low speed and it is like the serrow (225cc) I used to ride.
The DR650SE is a big single, so it is a bit awkward at very low speed and stalls out, but the DR-Z400S is not like that and it is easy.
The suspension is good and the off-road performance is superb.
For appearance
It's yellow, flashy, modern, and I think it's cool.
Disadvantages/weaknesses
For the purpose
The footing is not very good. It's even worse because I have a high seat.
It's tough on dirt and snow.
For running
The driven sprocket is reduced by 2T, but the engine rpm is still too high and the high speed The roads are suffering.
I want a 6 speed transmission. However, it is much better than a 250cc trail car.
For appearance
I'm not complaining at all.
One drawback that is often mentioned is that the headlights are dark.
But that much is nothing to speak of. With a little bit of modification, you can change the headlight.
Here is a picture of the headlight modification. The stock headlights are 35/36.5W and the XT250X headlights are H4/55/60W.
The XT headlight is bigger, but fits perfectly into the stock cowl.
Summary (Recommended for people like this, etc.)
In Japan and Europe, new registrations are no longer allowed due to emissions regulations, but in the US and It's still being sold new in Australia and New Zealand. So the supply of genuine parts is not a problem at all.
The Motard type (DR-Z400SM) as a sister bike sold quite well, so you can still get Japanese made external parts, and since the bike has been sold for 20 years since it was launched in 2000, there are plenty of them in his country.
Parts you can't buy in Japan are not a problem if you import them overseas via the internet. Everything from big tanks, large carriers, bore up kits, FCR carbs, etc. are available.
The engine sticks at low speeds and blows up to high speeds and has great characteristics.
Vehicle weight is 141kg. This is heavier than the 133kg of the Serrow 250 and 136kg of the KLX250, but the CRF250L It's lighter than 144kg. Both feel much the same (the Cerro is just under 6% lighter than the Cerro).
On the other hand, the maximum power output is 40 hp. The Serrow has 20 hp, while the KLX250 and CRF250L have 24 hp.
With 60% more displacement, the power output is significantly different. That's twice as much as the Cerro and 1.67 times as much as the KLX and CRF.
