KAWASAKI ZX-6R Owner's Review

We will introduce Meme's passionate story about his riding experience with his beloved motorcycle, ZX-6R, from Webike community "My Beloved Moto" campaign. Meme shared with us about his review of the ZX-6R, including its advantages and disadvantages, which he knows well because he's the owner.

Meme's Brief self-introduction

  • Motorcycle history and how I usually enjoy my motorcycle riding

I've been riding motorcycles for about 23 years, starting with mopeds and continuing to the present. I have 2 motorcycles and a car, and when I commute to work, I ride around with a car, and use the ADDRESS and 6R in rotation. The ZX-6R was delivered in May 2020, but I use it for commuting because I cannot go to touring due to the emergency declaration.

  • Period of riding this motorcycle

The ZX-6R was just delivered in May 2020 and has 750k miles on it.

  • Purchasing motive

In 2019, I bought my first 400cc for the first time in 20 years and became a returnee rider. I was mainly doing photo touring, but while waiting for an oil change, the ZX-6R started to get my attention.

It's been less than a year since I bought my 400cc, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to switch yet, but I was trying to get only the license first for big motorcycle holders and obtained it in about 3 weeks in February 2020.

At the yearly inspection in April, I rekindled my desire to purchase a motorcycle again. I decided to purchase it after test riding due to overlapping trade-in conditions for riding 10,000 km, discounts, cashless payments, and campaign conditions.

Satisfaction/Advantage

  • For purpose

I still only use it for commuting (I'm taking the long way home!). It should be able to be driven in town, on highways, mountain passes, and on circuits. It is easy to handle with full torque enough for city riding. I want to go for long touring.

  • For riding

The liter motorcycles are powerful, but even the middle class 6Rs are powerful enough. It has torque and it is easy to handle in the city. It is the first SS, but it is not the forward-leaning posture as I thought, and If you ride with a knee-grip, your neck, shoulders, and arms are not as painful as I thought. My lower back is in pain from the start so it hurts a little bit. I have short legs, so I installed a low down kit (-2cm) as an option. It gives me better foot grounding and a more secure feeling.

Standard features include a quick shifter (only up-type), ETC 2.0, traction control, power mode, full LED's except for the front and rear blinkers. The helmet holder is a nice touch!
The right front cowl is equipped with an accessory power supply that is linked to the ACC system and can be easily attached with a connector. The quadruple exhaust sounds are good. It has a good sound even for the standard.

  • For appearance

I personally like the common design of the Ninja series.

Dissatisfaction / Disadvantage

  • For purpose

I know that loading is tough for the SS, but I'd like to have room for at least my vehicle inspection and maintenance notes. It is currently folded into 4 pieces and stored in a gap at the end of the cowl.

The position of the smartphone holder is delicate. It is not visible if it's close to the fuel tank. The smartphone holder is visible if it's near the meter, but the meter is difficult to be seen and the key is hard to insert. I think it's the same on all SS motorcycles.

  • For riding

There is nothing that can be done with high octane, poor fuel economy. I've only driven it around town, but I'd like to see it exceed 20km/L. A down quick shifter would be great.

  • For appearance

Chances of being mistaken for a Ninja 250, 400 or 650 are high, lol. I feel like I can only judge it by the front intake, decals, exhaust system and handlebar position. I wanted it to be a little more distinct. But it is cool.

Summary (Recommended riders)

I recommend 600-650cc middle-class if you want to ride a big SS but are relatively light and easy to handle, and who also rides in the city. When in doubt, I think it's best to purchase the motorcycle you want.
