Kawasaki ZX-6R Owner Review

Introducing 5sonline passionate story about his riding experience with his beloved motorcycle, ZX-6R, from Webike Community's "My Beloved Moto" campaign.

5sonline told us about his review of the ZX-6R, including its advantages and disadvantages, which he knows well because he's the owner.

Brief self-introduction

Motorcycle history
I took 20 years off from mopeds when I was 17, fast. I took 8 years off along the way. So it's been about 12 years.

How I enjoy my motorcycle on a regular basis
Touring is the main thing. I'd like to debut on the track one day, but I'm actually a novice, so I want to have a friend who is new to the track.

How long have you been riding this motorcycle?
My current ZX-6R was purchased one year ago and has about 3,000 miles on it.

Motive for purchase
I've always been a Kawasaki, and I've always wanted a Kawasaki lime green color, and this is the 30th-anniversary model.

Last year, I cleared a certain condition (dieting) and got my family's consent, so although I still have an address v125 for commuting, I decided to get back on a motorcycle for the first time in 8 years.

Since the 30th anniversary of the release of the Ninja, I was very attached to it and considered buying a used one. I asked my favorite motorcycle shop and waited for half a year to buy a motorcycle in good condition. I'm sorry for being so selfish.

Satisfaction and Strengths

For applications
Mainly for touring. I don't want to add too much mileage to it, so I don't use it for commuting, etc. Its touring is its main focus, but with 126 hp of power, it's honestly over-specified. But it's lime green, so it stands out.

For riding
I remember when I used to ride a mid-sized Kawasaki, I had to take my body out of the motorcycle because it wouldn't turn. It's a 2015, so I guess I'd be lumped in with the more recent motorcycles, but it "stops", "turns" and "accelerates" just like I thought it would. I feel like it's not too straightforward, but it's not too unlike it, because I can wind down on a little mountain road with ease.

For appearance

Although it is a middle-class motorcycle, it is an SS and looks racy. When I used to ride a midsize motorcycle, I longed for a big SS, but I thought it would be too over spec, so I decided to go with the ZX-6R, which was a great decision for me personally. Some of the SS models sold in the past few years have been more subdued in terms of coloring, but the 30th-anniversary model's colors are very spirited and very nice.

Speaking of colors, there is one more thing. The part of my motorcycle that I like the most is the blue titanium exhaust system. The blue gradation is very nice. By the way, the 30th anniversary color is available in both 1000cc and 250cc, but people who ride these motorcycles can easily tell which one they are riding just by passing by, (lol).

Dissatisfaction and Weaknesses

For applications
Even though it's middle class, I think it's classified as SS. So the biggest problem is posture. My body is banged up when I get home, even on a day trip. The recent 250cc class sportbike? I honestly envy the height of the steering wheel when riding with the ZX-6R, and the ZX-6R has the steering wheel below the meter, so it's always ready for battle? I've had one person behind me tell me that my posture is in serious mode. But that doesn't mean I can't change the handlebars, I just have to get used to it. It doesn't help that the loadings are low, or almost all of them, anymore.

For riding
As I mentioned in the "satisfaction points" section, while the motorcycle is straightforward enough to be controlled the way you want, it lacks the feel of the old Kawasaki, which is what I thought when I came back to it. It has KTRC, but I can't tell when it's working. I wish it had better fuel economy. I'm currently getting 16km/L when touring, and that's with high-octane gas.

For appearance
The number one complaint is that there are no hazards, although you can see them from the outside. A lot of modern SS domestic models come with them, but for my main touring application, I would want a hazard for meeting up or something. I asked a motorcycle shop I know very well to install the hazards.

Summary

I was the same way, but when I was looking for an SS and thought it would be overspecified for a 1000cc, I knew it would be a middle class SS! Modern models have hazards from the start, a quick shifter, and a massive amount of electronic control. Be careful not to get mocked.

Thank you, 5sonline, for a narrative that shows so much love for the ZX-6R!
