Yamaha YZF-R1 Owner Review

Introducing the passionate story from Chiritaro who rides the YZF-R1, from Webike Community's "My Beloved Moto" campaign.

He shares his reviews of the YZF-R1, including the advantage and the disadvantage, which he understands well because he is the owner.

Brief self-introduction

Motorcycle history and how I usually enjoy my motorcycle.
I've had my big motorcycle for about 15 years. I enjoy riding on the streets, mountain passes, and touring... but I have not yet ridden on the track on my R1.

How long I have been riding this motorcycle?
I bought a new 2011 model and this is my 9th year.

Motive for purchase
After getting the license, I bought it because of the name value of the R1 despite the twists and turns. I chose R1 because the engine had just changed to cross-plane by full model change.

Satisfactions

For applications
It's not that aggressive of a position, so touring is not a hardship as it doesn't get tired for about 2 hours of riding!

For riding
The cross-plane engine, which is derived from the DNE of the MotoGP YZR-M1, responds linearly to the accelerator, so you can accelerate out of curves without fear.

For appearance
The dull-eyed, dewy-eyed gold face is cute, and the asymmetrical scarf up in the center is sexy!

Dissatisfaction

For applications
The heat exhaust is hotter than other SS vehicles due to the fact that it is a center-up exhaust system. When driving in the city or touring, the exhaust heat is enough to interfere with driving. Also, the fuel efficiency is 10-20% worse than the rival vehicles.

For riding
Perhaps because it is a cross-plane engine, it is easy to stall if the clutch is not carefully connected at startup, and at low speeds below 3000 rpm, the body will shake like a V-twin cylinder, so those who have only driven a parallel 4-cylinder engine may have a strange feeling.

For appearance
As this is a North American re-imported motorcycle, it had reflectors and large turn signals on the sides, so I removed the reflectors and replaced the turn signals.

Summary

Although it's a motorcycle that is divided on looks and engine sound, the R1 and MT-10 are the only motorcycles with cross-plane engines, so if you want a sweet experience, I recommend it!

However, the motorcycle is from when electronic controls were first installed, so there are no 6-axis sensors, not to mention no traction control or ABS. The throttle is an electric throttle, but the throttle limiter is a bonus!

Thank you, Chiritaro, for a narrative that clearly conveys your love for the YZF-R1!
