Brief self-introduction
Motorcycle history
30 years.
How I enjoy my motorcycle on a regular basis?
I've been flushing around the vicinity of 20km to see how the motorcycle is doing. Long-distance touring about once a year (about 1000 km round trip is the limit).
How long I have been riding this motorcycle?
I've been riding it since October 2009 and still do today.
Motive for purchase
I've never been interested in motorcycles in town, but when I saw how much fun people seemed to be having on their motorcycles while touring, I got my license. I decided that if I was going to ride it anyway, I wanted to get a two-stroke 250cc motorcycle that I had admired in high school. It cost me 30,000 yen for shipping, but considering the market price in 2020, I was pretty lucky now that I was able to buy it at this price for an actual working motorcycle. But I had no idea at the time that it was going to take a lot of work.
Satisfaction
- The 2 stroke 250CC has great power and acceleration. Also, if you don't skip it, the fuel consumption is 20 km per liter, so it will travel nearly 300 km with a full tank. For now, it has the capacity to go touring.
- It's a cool looking racer that looks exactly like the racer NSR250, and the design doesn't look old even after 30 years.
- It's a popular model, so there are plenty of used parts and outside parts still being supplied. I can fix it so that it works for the time being. I'm glad that some new genuine parts are also available.
Dissatisfaction
- Leaning forward is a hard thing to do when touring. The seat is too tight for my back and my hips get sore after a long time riding. The position of the step is also quite tight for someone who is 180cm tall. The stock mirrors also don't show the rear of the motorcycle at all.
- I want to replace the internal condenser with a new one, but there is no shop that can replace it. The internal condenser is coming to the end of its life with age and I want to replace the condenser and other parts while it's safe, but none of the shops are willing to replace it. I pray every time I ride it that it doesn't break.
- I'm not sure how much it will cost me to buy the parts. 10 years ago it cost me 120,000 yen for the piston and crankshaft.
- It's also a shame that it gets covered in oil when you ride around town with the limiter off.
Summary
I would recommend it to anyone who hasn't tried the intense acceleration of a two-stroke while it's still available. If you don't try this acceleration, you will definitely regret it in your motorcycle life. Also, unless you can maintain it yourself, it will cost you as much money as you can afford.
Thank you, Taka, for your story that shows your love for the NSR250R so strongly!
