Honda Grom Owner Review
Introducing a passionate story of Tamarin-r who ride GROM (MSX-125), from Webike Community's "My Beloved Moto" campaign.
He shared his review of the GROM, including the advantage and the disadvantage, which he understands well because he is the owner.
Brief self-introduction
I'm an elderly man who discovered the joy of motorcycles during the motorcycle boom of the late 1980s. I like touring down the road, and if I remained silent, I'll be riding all day long.
I'd like to introduce you to the motorcycle I've played with the most since I started tinkering with motorcycles. After switching from a VTR250 carburetor to a CBR125R, I bought a new PCX150 for the first time in a long time and learned how to play with (and enjoy) motorcycles, and won a Kawasaki KSR110 manual on Yahoo! It was a 2-year-old used model with only 3800km on it.
The weaknesses of the GROM that I found on the Internet were that the tires were slippery and the seat was too hard for long distances, but the tires and seat had been changed from the beginning, and I had two years of liability insurance left, and it also came with a meter visor, so I didn't need to mess with it for the time being. My first touring trip was to Honda's Kumamoto factory.
Satisfaction
The view from the front is pretty, but it has a meter visor for wind protection and a fearless look. My PCX150, which I'm riding at the same time for middle distance, has the same Rossman's color, but I like the white and blue color. When I bought it, it was black, but I guess the color is important. The mirror is a genuine PCX150. I think it is something more suitable than a circle.
- The first advantage is the design.
- The second is the low fuel consumption. The PCX150 also has good mileage, but it is a carburetor type engine, and the KSR110 did not ride 40km/L.
- The third is a torque-type engine that allows for sloppy driving, and it can be ridden in 4th gear (although it is impossible to start the motorcycle).
- The fourth is that the maneuverability is great. I was trying to be the fastest downhill rider on the mountain passes. My old Suzuki GAG was like that.
- Lastly, the fifth is that the engine is so simple that it is ideal for learning the mechanics. This is not the case with a water-cooled engine.
Dissatisfaction
I enjoy touring down the road, so...not being able to ride at high speed is not a drawback, but it is still the hardness of the seat and the rear suspension. As for the seat, I put more sponges in the external seat.
I changed the handlebars to hurricane handlebars and changed to the forward-leaning position and the load distribution made it much easier and I could ride 450km in one day in Shikoku Shimanami touring. When I first bought it, it was hard to ride 200km. When it was sold, I put it back to the full normal position, and it gave up after 50km. I changed three rear suspensions too.
There is zero storage. For touring, I added a rear carrier so that I can attach the same box as PCX150. Furthermore, I put the mini tank bag in the exhaust bracket and put tools and raincoat for a short distance. And I can put a plastic bottle or so.
Summary
I went to Honda's Kumamoto factory to take pictures in the final form.
If it's normal, I guess it's mainly for commuting. It's a high mileage tank, about 5 liters, and I had no complaints. I think you should change the tires that are slippery in the rain when you commute to work. (I won a bid for a 2014 GROM at Yahoo! auction the year before last and actually drive stock tires.)
For riders who want to learn mechanics, you will need some tools, but there is no end to what you can do once you start tinkering with it. You can't see it in the photo, but the license plate is white (light motorcycle) at this time. The front suspension also sinks quickly, so you need to get used to it. The rear brakes don't work well at all, but this was just fine for me (I changed the brake pads to softer ones).
I modified the following: exhaust system, air cleaner, throttle body, 133cc engine, rear suspension, sub-computer, handlebar, mirrors, rear brake pads, F sprocket raised one position, tires (Scootsmart ) from when I bought it, external seat, meter visor, and carrier.
If I could keep two motorcycles on hand, I would have kept them, but I sold them because I wanted to drive a 250cc transmission motorcycle again. But I still couldn't forget how to play with the mechanism, so I won the bid again in Yahoo auctions a few years later, lol.
Thank you, Tamarin-r, for a narrative that shows so much love for Grom!
