Suzuki GSX-R750 Owner Review
Introducing a passionate story of "Yokochan" who rides GSX-R750, from Webike Community's "My Beloved Moto" campaign.
He shared his review of the GSX-R750 including the advantage and the disadvantage, which he understands well because he is the owner.
Brief self-introduction
Motorcycle history
This year, I will be 51 years old, and I have been riding motorcycles for 35 years. When I was a kid, there was a movement called the "Three Don'ts" in motorcycle riding: (1) Don't get a license, (2) Don't let me take a license, and (3) Don't buy a motorcycle. Because of this evil movement, anyone who rode a motorcycle was usually labeled as a delinquent.
In the old days, the large motorcycle license was obtained when there was a one-shot test at the testing center, and it was called a tailing test.
It's my beloved machine, but it's treated as an old motorcycle now, I'm sure, because I hardly see it anymore, it's such a rare motorcycle. The 1989 SUZUKI GSX-R750RK at the time, is a motorcycle that was released as a homologation model limited edition like RC30 and OW01, and is more suited to the circuit than street riding.
Motive for purchase
The reason why I bought this motorcycle was that the motorcycle shop sold it to me. At the time, I was a Kawasaki user, so I was riding a Kawasaki, but the motorcycle shop I was taking it to for repairs had an unsold motorcycle, and they pushed this one on me. I have been touring on such a motorcycle for decades now.
Satisfaction
It's a limited edition motorcycle, so it's got a special look to it, different in many ways from the '89 GSX-R750K model! First of all, the headlights are stock with yellow bulbs, which is something you don't see nowadays. And it's a single seat, too clean! The gasoline tank is an aluminum tank and the swingarm is reinforced. The engine cover was made of magnesium, and the tappet adjustment nut was titanium, and so on. When you go touring, you won't get lost in the service area because you won't get separated from others.
Above all, it is an oil-cooled engine. The sound of the engine is clearly different from that of a water-cooled engine, and the exhaust that is released from the engine lifts the rider's spirits and makes him want to go on riding as far as he can.
Dissatisfaction
The position isn't the most comfortable ride with the steering wheel so far away and the seats so thin, but it's a blast to drive! But it is very difficult to ride the motorcycle in the stock condition.
First of all, the gear ratios are too long and the cross-transmission makes it hard to launch. The engine is only 750cc nowadays, so it is left behind by the modern supersports, and the fuel consumption is not so good either.
I'm sure all manufacturers are in the same situation, but many of the limited edition motorcycles of this model year have been discontinued, so it's very difficult to maintain the motorcycle. I've been stocking up on parts to maintain the motorcycle, but I don't have all the parts, so I don't know how long I can keep it riding!
Still, if you're going to go touring somewhere, this motorcycle is recommended. It's been tweaked and customized over the years, so it's the best buddy in its current state.
Summary
Unlike today's motorcycles, which are not electronically controlled, the gas pedal is not connected to the injectors by a wire, it's connected to the carburetor by a wire and you can't really control the gas pedal in a subtle way, so you can use all the gasoline you want, though! (lol) I can't get enough of that kind of analog feel.
It's an interaction with the motorcycle that appeals to all of the human senses, and there's a sense of being in control rather than being ridden. I will continue to ride RK, even though it can't carry a load, can't carry a person, and is a badly made motorcycle. I'm sure there are some people who want an RK, but it's an old motorcycle, and if you can find one used, you can, but as I mentioned, it's hard to maintain and I can't recommend it because it's hard to get parts out of it. The exception to this is the person who is infected with bell bacteria who says "still".
Thank you, Yokochan, for your narrative, which clearly shows your love for the GSX-R750!
