Yamaha YZF-R25 Review

I will introduce "Owner Review Summary", a collection of reviews based on the voices of owners who have actually ridden various motorcycles from the Webike Community's My Bike. In this article, I will bring you the real voices of the owners about the YZF-R25.

This is what the YZF-R25 is!

The introduction of the Ninja 250R in 2008 marked the start of the Heisei-Japanese 250 War, so to speak. To compete with the blockbuster Ninja, Honda launched the CBR250R, Suzuki the GSR250 and other new-generation 250cc sports motorcycles, and the YZF-R25 was launched by Yamaha in 2014 as the last of the four domestic manufacturers.

At the dawn of the Heisei-Reiwa 250 war, the motorcycle from the three earlier manufacturers was gentler in character, as the market was also in its infancy. However, the R25 was SS-oriented and came with a high-revving two-cylinder engine with the highest horsepower in its class at the time. The R25 was a hit among young people because of its good performance and sound, as well as its young and speedy style with straight and sharp lines. The R25 became a hit with the young generation, and many companies woke up and began to produce high-performance 250cc sports motorcycles, leading to the current boom. The R25 was a key player in this upsurge.

The R25 will receive significant improvements in 2019. In terms of athletic performance, it is equipped with an inverted suspension. And the major tweak is to the exterior, which now has a more racy design inspired by the YZR-M1 MotoGP vehicle.

When analyzing the factors behind the popularity of the R25 from My Bike, style is the number one factor. As mentioned above, the R25 looks good, but some people say that it is more luxurious than the price. This package of the R25 is the benchmark for 250cc sports motorcycles.

A quick summary of the YZF-R25

Advantage

Styling at a Glance
It's more complete than the price.
It works according to the rider's senses.
The more you turn the engine, the more fun it is!
Surprisingly, I don't feel the exhaust heat of the engine in my legs.

Disadvantage

Low load capacity, bags are required.
Difficult to maintain because of full cowl
It's a rather forward-leaning position.

Foot grounding

About 50% of riders in the 166-170cm height range said that the YZF-R25's footing "floats on the heels".

Purpose of purchase, purpose of use, comparative modelsVisited the shop considering the R25 even before I got my license, fell in love with the matte red color and bought it on the spot! (Matte Red is only available for the 2019 model year)
Strengths/Satisfactory pointsIt looks sporty, but the acceleration is mild. However, since it is a high-revving engine, it is interesting to add a sporty feeling when the engine speed exceeds about 6000 rpm!
It's easy to handle because it's lightweight and the position isn't too tight, so it's easy to drive around town, and it gets good fuel economy!
Even at high speeds, the cowl keeps me from getting winded and tired!
The front suspension has been changed to an inverted fork for the 2019 model year. Those gold outer tubes you see glimpses of are really cool! (Some of them are black depending on the year and body color)
The lights are all LED, except for the blinkers, so they're easy to see at night, and you feel safe!
Weaknesses and complaintsAs is typical with super sports, it is a little hard to make small turns and U-turns at low speeds when you are not used to it. If you're not good at it, you'll get knocked down.
It's got almost no cargo capacity, and with the ETC you can't fit nearly anything in it, so you'll need your own backpack, seatbacks, rear box, etc.!
Advice to prospective buyers.I recommend this motorcycle to anyone who wants to get a motorcycle license, ride a supersport motorcycle for the first time, or just want to rev the engine!
There are plenty of custom parts so you can enjoy setting up and dressing up to your liking!
It's such a fun motorcycle you could ride it every day and never get tired of it!

Mr. Mei

Purpose of purchase, purpose of use, comparative modelsI bought this motorcycle based on a plan to "let go of two motorcycles and consolidate to one", because maintaining three motorcycles has become financially difficult and I honestly can't afford it.
I had a chance to rent an early model R25/R3, and the uncommonly good feeling I got from that experience led me to choose this one.
Strengths/Satisfactory pointsA very nice motorcycle.
It's a very complete motorcycle that makes the new price of over 600,000 seem cheap.
I believe that the best motorcycles are those that are essentially user-friendly, without the need for skill or familiarity, and this R25 is exactly that.
The body is very gentle and does not get disturbed by bumps due to the use of inverted forks.
The engine also revs up smoothly without any sudden behavior.
The combination of these factors creates a very gentle characteristic that synchronizes with the rider's senses and stays close to the rider.
On the other hand, it's great because it's made to move literally "at will" if the rider wants to do something violent.
I thought it was all about shape, but it's even better than the previous R25.
The total balance and perfection of the motorcycle, including the chassis and engine, is so high that it can no longer be compared to the current Ninja 250.
Weaknesses and complaintsSince I was leaning forward rather than backward, my body, dulled by lack of exercise in my 30s, screamed for a while.
My core muscles, mainly around my shoulders and along my spine, were sore.
I will re-train during the winter.

Purpose of purchase, purpose of use, comparative modelsMotivation for purchase: looks, blue wheels
Purpose:Ttouring on a day off
Strengths/Satisfactory pointsAfter all, it is light and even I am not strong enough to handle it. The acceleration is fast and it's fun to rev it up to high rpm. Also, the design and the paint are beautiful and it looks good. It is very fun to drive and I think I can keep it for a long time.
Weaknesses and complaintsI'm short and short-legged, so I don't have good footing. I'm a beginner, so maybe that's just how sport motorcycles are. I'm afraid I'm going to fall off the motorcycle one day.
Advice to prospective buyers. From my point of view, having only ridden a moped (YBR125) in the past, it is the most fun motorcycle. Of course, it climbs slopes that are difficult to climb with a moped. I think there is a preference between the old model and the new model, but the new model has a feeling that the expression of the front changes depending on the angle of view. The monitor type meter is also controversial, but I think it is very easy to read. I am very happy to be able to buy this motorcycle, and the pleasure of riding it every weekend makes me want to work harder.
