Kawasaki ZRX1100 OEM HACK
From the Webike community's "Moto Hack" campaign, we'd like to introduce you to the passionate story of "webi man" who rides a ZRX1100! Learn how to use the stock ZRX1100 as an owner!
A brief self-introduction
The maintenance of the electric equipment is not finished because of the continuous rain, and it is difficult to ride the bike. I can't wait for the end of the rainy season.
A brief description of this HACK
The zrx1200r/s, the successor to the zrx1100, has a lot of common parts, although it's no surprise. However, I'm posting about the diversion of the zrx1200r's exhaust pipe, which has become similar and dissimilar in the process of evolution. I bought a used Stryker bolt-on silencer because I was somewhat concerned about the size of the stock silencer. it was supposed to be for the zrx1100, but when I tried to install it, the bolt holes didn't attach to the bolt holes until they were upside down.
It was for zrx1200r/s, which is the punchline. At first, I was thinking of taking the silencer apart and machining it and turning it upside down, but then I found a used zrx1200r exhaust pipe that was affordable and I decided to use it.
Parts, tools and things needed for this HACK
Product name: kawasaki stock zrx1200r/s exhaust pipe
Part Number: I didn't know the original part number.
Product name: Exhaust System Gasket (RC Engineering)
Part number 71-10-61
Required number 1 set
In addition to this, three M8 bolts to hold the silencer in place, 30mm to 40mm in length, I used the bolts I had on hand that I cut. I think it's safe to replace the exhaust gasket. I used the above gasket, but there are many options besides the stock ones. After that, you'll need a stock or external silencer.
How to do the HACK, instructions, work instructions, etc.
The installation is pontooned with no special modification required, but it usually involves removing the radiator. This time, I didn't want to remove the coolant, so I pulled out the bolts that hold the radiator in place, and then moved the radiator out of the way and put my hand into a small gap. It took some time, but I got there safely. As for the silencer, I cut the M8 bolt I have and used it, but I plan to replace it with something a little better in time.
Summary of HACK
The position of the bolt holes that hold the silencer is generally a downward triangle for the zrx1100, whereas the one for the zrx1200r/s is upward, so if you divert only the exhaust pipe or the silencer, the silencer will be upside down. . Then the look changed from black paint to stainless steel for a different image (the zrx1200 ones were also black until 2003). I liked black too, but I think it became a good look for me. Also, while the zrx1100's were angled so that the silencer was slightly outward facing, the zrx1200r's are almost horizontal with the body of the car. This makes the silencer position more to my liking.
It is a pity that the replacement of the oil filter became troublesome. zrx1100's exhaust pipe, if you loosen the valve in the center, the cover comes down and the filter can be removed, but the one of zrx1200r interferes with the cover because the protrusion of this part is large, and the filter comes down It is not suitable. To remove it, you must pull out the center valve and remove the freed cover while dislodging it to remove the filter. This diversion has made changing the oil filter a hassle, but I'm very happy with a nice makeover where a full exhaust was out of reach.
Thank you, webi man, for posting that valuable stock diversion HACK!
