The same specifications as the European model

The new GSX-S1000 from Suzuki will be available for sale in Japan from August 4, 2021. The first generation of the GSX-S1000 debuted in 2015. The new GSX-S1000, now in its second generation, has an aggressive and avant-garde design while retaining its easy handling and high sport performance.

In addition, the engine output has been improved and the electronic control system "S.I.R.S.The new model is equipped with a new "B" button, which makes it easier to handle and more sporty to ride. The GSX-S1000F is also appealing because its specifications and equipment are the same as those of the European-spec model, which has already been on sale since June. The first-generation GSX-S1000F ABS was also released with a full cowl for enhanced long-distance touring performance, but no announcement has been made for this version.

The first generation was a true "beast" derived from the famous K5

The first generation GSX-S1000 was a hot topic of conversation because of its wild style designed based on the concept of a "hunting beast" and equipped with the straight-4 engine of the famous 2005 GSX-R1000, known as the K5.

The reason why the K5 was chosen was because it had the longest stroke of any GSX-R series engine, and its low to mid-range torque output characteristics made it easy to handle on the street and directly related to its powerful acceleration in the normal range. In other words, it was a born fighter.

At the time, a media test drive was held on a winding road in Hakone, and I remember being overwhelmed by the exhaust sound like a roaring beast, and the extreme power of the front end lifting off the ground with a strong acceleration G just by opening the throttle.

Electric control system is introduced and output is increased to 150ps.

The new model's style has changed dramatically. The organic, muscular form of the previous model has been replaced by a sharp, linear design. This is a concept shared by the new V-Strom 1050, which was introduced last year. The headlights have been upgraded with LEDs and a more impressive two-stage hexagonal shape, and the face has been made more compact to further concentrate the masses.

The maximum output has been increased from 148ps to 150ps in compliance with Euro 5. The electronic control system S.I.R.S. (Suzuki Intelligent Ride System) has been newly installed, and the three driving modes with electric throttle and five levels of traction control have been improved for easier and more convenient handling. The system offers improved ease of use and convenience in a variety of riding situations. Comfort and safety are also enhanced with a quick shifter for upshifting and downshifting and a slipper clutch as standard equipment.

In addition, the aluminum handlebar has been widened to accommodate more aggressive riding. The basic performance has been upgraded from the bottom up, including the existing Brembo radial-mount calipers, ABS, the Suzuki Easy Start System that allows the engine to be started with a single push, and the Low RPM Assist system that supports starting and low-speed riding.

Personally, I am somewhat disappointed that the Motion Track Brake System, which was available on the XT, the advanced off-road version of the V-Strom 1050, has not been adopted.
This is essentially a cornering ABS system that combines a 6-axis IMU with an ABS control unit, and I really felt the benefits of this system when I test rode the V-Strom last year.

I'm sure there is a cost factor, but you can check it out. In any case, I'm sure many fans are looking forward to the evolution of the GSX-S1000, one of the most popular domestic fighters. I can't wait to see how it performs.
