MOTO HACK: Changing SR400 Front Disc Into a Floating Disc Cheaper Than Aftermarket Parts

How to

Yamaha SR400 HACK

I will introduce the passionate story of Nero who rides the SR400, from the Webike Community "MOTO HACK" campaign!

Nero will show how to divert the stock parts on his SR400!

Brief self-introduction

2013 SR400-35th - I love the atmosphere & ride quality of the early days of SR, so I'm trying to improve the features little by little without compromising the original.

Brief description of this HACK

I have used the stock XJR disc plate to convert the front disc of the SR to a floating disc, which can be used on other Yamaha models.

Parts, tools, and things needed for this HACK

Item: Genuine Yamaha
DISK BRAKE ASSEMBLY Part No.: 5PX-2581T-00
Required quantity: 1
Tools: Set of tools including torque wrench and 6mm hex socket required for removing and installing the F-wheel (If you don't know what this means, leave it to the professionals)

How to do the HACK, explanation, work instructions, etc.

It is compatible with the stock SR wheel so no modification is required. Just remove the brake calipers, remove the F-wheel, and replace the discs. However, since the 6 M8 bolts use a locking agent, it may be difficult to loosen with a hex wrench, so please prepare a 6mm hex socket. By the way, I used cast wheels for mine, but you can use spoke wheels as well.

HACK Summary

Advantage
The vibration just before braking stops that was occurring with the stock SR discs has been eliminated. I think we can expect more improvements in thermal distortions in the future. The price is also more reasonable than external products.

Disadvantage
None. Naturally, the brakes don't change, but I didn't feel like it was lacking, so it's not a problem for me.

Reviews
Initially, I was considering replacing it with an external product and realized it was compatible. In addition to the price, I am very complacent with the sense of security due to the diversion of OEM products and the casualness that I do not see at a glance.

Thank you Nero for posting that valuable stock diversion HACK!
