Honda CBR250R (MC19) OEM HACK
We introduce you to the passionate story of "Jiko" who rides the CBR250R (MC19), from the Webike community's "Moto Hack" campaign!
Jiko will show how to use the OEM parts of CBR250R (MC19), which he can understand because he is the owner!
A brief self-introduction
If I were to start with a brief self-introduction, I would like to introduce myself, I usually ride a mini-bike NS50F on the circuit, and several numbered vehicles (NS250R.I'm a person who enjoys motorcycles such as touring with the MBX125F).
A brief description of this HACK
This time it's the CBR250R (MC19) 89 Hurricane
Here's an introduction to the genuine electrical tuning of 2hari.
The main purpose of this job is to increase torque and response, so the ignition coil has to be replaced. This is one of the best ways to keep the car running smoothly rather than changing the muffler.
I changed the ignition coil, then the plug cord, then the plug, in that order, when it was time to change the plugs.
Parts, tools and things needed for this HACK
The parts we will be using are
Ignition coil assembly
Part number 30510-MCC-003
It's the greenish one in
You will need two for the 4 cylinder MC19. It should be the same part number as the one used on the Silverwing and RVF400, it should say MP10, which is one size larger than the stock MC19 one, which is a project called MP08.
How to do the HACK, instructions, work instructions, etc.
The first step in the process is to remove the things that get to the ignition coil, such as the seat cowl, seat, tank and air cleaner.
Don't forget to cock off the tank. After that, remove it carefully so as not to break the exterior.
Remove the air cleaner and you will see the ignition coil. It is fixed to the frame side with a stay, so remove the entire stay.
Since it's just bolted to the stays, remove the original ignition coil and put a new ignition coil to it. One of them will come on easily, but one side may have a thread that's half way off the bolt. Grip the stay firmly with water pump pliers or pliers and bend the stay with skill. It won't be easy to bend the stay, but it's not so difficult to bend it, so this is a point to work on.
After 5 years of training, it's a very tiny little thing. This is a lie. It's very crude. Please don't poke me.
When you remove the factory coils, I'm sure the plug cord will be attached to the car, but probably the cord that comes with the car from new is tickled and in some cases, the film is torn off. Mine had one skin torn off (I didn't feel any problems with driving).
Also, there are two types of ignition coils, one with the same depth as MC19 and the other with a shallower cord. Please be careful how much you insert the cord. I changed to a new silicone power plug cord (same shape as stock and seems to be leak resistant).
Once you've replaced the stays, you can install the air cleaner and other exterior parts to the body and it's done.
Summary of HACK
It is the impression of the ignition coil and ignition system diversion tune, but I feel that low speed torque and response became better. It may be due to the increase in capacity, but since it is a 30 year old bike, it may be better to say that the power was regained because the one that had deteriorated returned to the new form that it should be. I was also hoping for better starting performance, but not much has changed there: .......
Response, it feels like it's better in the air. Downshift blipping also feels more piquant. It may not be a drastic change, but it's definitely better than before.
The high RPM's do not go out of fire and the car runs well. The muffler and carburetor will need to be maintained but if those things are done properly you will feel the power.
Also, as I mentioned at the beginning, the bike is 30 years old. You don't know when it will break or weaken to the level of unrideability. It's also a preventive maintenance for power up as well. You should dress up your car or change the parts that need to be replaced before your health is compromised by spending money on parts that you don't know about to increase the power, but it's not easy for many people. This is a great way to tune your car for power up as well, so it's a little bit better than that.
Also, the stock stays will be damaged. This may be a tough job for those who only think that being stock is the best way to go.
It's up to you whether you think it's expensive or not.
Some of you may not feel the power increase for the price
If you want to replace the ignition system all at once, you'll have to spend 10,000 yen for the plug cord and less than 10,000 yen for the plug.
Thank you, Joko, for posting that valuable stock diversion HACK!
